Against stiff cable competition, the annual film kudos are handed out in front of just 3.2 million viewers, while the sophomore run of the network's supernatural drama holds strong to its freshman numbers.
Up against the NBA finals, Game of Thrones, Longmire and a slew of other cable offerings Sunday night, the 2012 MTV Movie Awards took a serious hit, averaging just 3.2 million viewers.
The broadcast, hosted by Russell Brand, was down 29 percent from last year in total viewers, when it earned 4.5 million.
It wasn't all bad news for MTV, though. The second season of Teen Wolf kicked off its two-part premiere to the tune of 2.1 million viewers. That's stronger than the previous season's finale and just shy of the series premiere, which brought in 2.2 million viewers with a much stronger Movie Awards lead-in.
